and removed afterwards.
Horse Guards Parade
This historic location in Central London boasts the
Prime Minister as a neighbour and hosts the famous Trooping
The Colour ceremony each year on the Queen's Birthday.
For the London 2012 Olympics, the 250-year old Horse
Guards Parade courtyard will be filled with sand and
a temporary, 15,000 seat arena to host the Beach Volleyball
competition. We've heard Her Majesty's a fan.
Hyde Park
Central London's Hyde Park will host the Olympic Triathlon
and 10km Open Water Swim in the Serpentine. From a temporary
structure in the park, 3,000 spectators will enjoy a
grandstand view of the finishing area for the events,
with many thousands more able to watch as the athletes
swim, cycle and run on the course.
Hyde Park will also be home to the music, theatre, film
and cultural events that will take place throughout
the summer of 2012 to accompany the Olympic Games.
Lord's Cricket Ground
The iconic London sports ground and "home of world
cricket", Lord's Cricket Ground will host the Olympic
Archery events.
The O2 Arena / North Greenwich Arena 1
The O2 "bubble", as it's affectionately known,

right. It will be called North Greenwich Arena 1 during
the Games and will host Gymnastics, Basketball (finals)
and Wheelchair Basketball.

The Road Cycling course will take in some of London's
premier locations including Hampstead Heath, before
reaching its conclusion in Regent's Park in front of
3,000 seated spectators.
The Royal Artillery Barracks
This historic building complex, dating back to 1776,
provides a fitting venue for the Olympic and Paralympic
Shooting events. Located on the edge of Woolwich Common
in South East London, close to Greenwich Park, the Royal
Artillery Barracks accommodates 7,500 spectators.
Wembley Arena
Wembley Arena, a world-renowned 12,500-seat indoor arena
in West London, will host the Rhythmic Gymnastics and
Badminton events at the 2012 Olympics.

include: Hampden Park in Glasgow; Millennium Stadium
in Cardiff; Manchester's Old Trafford; St James' Park,
Newcastle; and Coventry Ricoh Stadium.

Games, the Canoe, Kayak, Rowing and Sailing events will
be held on various waterways in and around the
London area.
Mountain Bike Cycling will take place on a new
course in Essex, about 40 miles (65km) from
Central London.
Eton Dorney
About 25 miles (40km) from London, near Windsor Castle,
this area is home to both Eton College and Lake Dorney.
The lake, where Rowing and Flatwater Canoe/Kayak and
Paralympic Rowing will be held, features a 2,200m, eight
lane course with a separate return lane recently constructed
to international standards by Eton College. Eton Dorney
will host up to 30,000 spectators each day during the
Olympic Games.
Lee Valley White Water Centre
The Lee Valley White Water Centre is 18.5 miles (30km)
to the north of the Olympic Park, near Waltham Cross.
During the London 2012 Games, the course will be used
for canoe slalom events, hosting 12,000 spectators each
day. The centre features world-class runs, including
a permanent 300m competition course and a 100m warm-up
course. Opening to the public in spring 2011, it will
be the first brand new London 2012 Games venue to be
completed and open for use. It will be a major centre
for white water rafting as well as canoeing and kayaking
both before and after the Games, when it will be operated
by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority.
Hadleigh Farm, Essex
A new, temporary, but suitably challenging Olympic Mountain
Bike Cycling course will be constructed in Essex, to
the east of London. To watch the exciting finish, a
temporary 3,000-capacity grandstand and facilities will
also be built on a site at Hadleigh Farm
Weymouth and Portland
Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour provide some of the
best natural sailing waters in the UK, with facilities
on land to match. This will be the venue for the Olympic
and Paralympic Sailing competitions.

events, including the 2006 ISAF World Youth Championships,
attended by more than 60 nations.
