Join us on a unique photographic journey of London,
rich in historic buildings, diverse galleries, rich
green parks and gardens, vibrant, colourful markets
and treasures from all periods. Designed for people
interested in maximizing their photography while traveling,
you will come away with stronger image visualization
skills and greater technical expertise, plus a large
and varied collection of extraordinary images. This
tour offers a myriad of opportunities for photographers
of every ability. The four components of the tour include:
photographing landscapes; breathtaking parks and gardens,
sweeping vistas of the cityscape, the winding river
Thames and romantic Victorian cemeteries; shooting historic,
dramatic and award winning architecture ; capturing
the people and local atmosphere of the worlds most cosmopolitan
city and photographing London at night.
You will be accompanied by an award winning photographer
that will offer a unique vision of London and expert
advice on the best way of getting the pictures you want.
You will have the opportunity of building up a portfolio
of work to demonstrate your development throughout the
week.
Also included are visits to some of the Britain’s
primary venues for contemporary photography. You will
attend exciting new exhibitions and visit world class
galleries and museums like the Victoria and Albert Museum.
Founded in the 1850s this beautiful Victorian building
has a large amount of gallery space dedicated to Photography
as well as the greatest and most diverse collection
of decorative art and design in the world, spanning
all continents and dating from 3000BC to the present
day. There will also be short lectures, discussions
and question and answer sessions.
Bath & the Fox Talbot Museum
*An optional excursion to the Fox Talbot Museum in Wiltshire
is also on offer. Known as the father of modern photography,
this museum commemorates the life and work of this great
19th century figure who invented the positive/negative
process. Located in a 15th century medieval barn there
are exhibitions throughout the year of a broad range
of work by other interesting 19th century photographers.
While there, visit the beautiful Lacock Abbey. Founded
in the year 1232 its beautiful cloister court and several
medieval quarters have been featured in various films
and television programmes and contributed to the fairytale
atmosphere of the Harry Potter films. The grounds feature
a splendid Victorian woodland garden with an 18th-century
summer house, rose and botanic garden.
Nearby is Bath, an amazing city of Georgian splendor.
It was founded by the Romans when they discovered the
only true hot springs in England. Walk in the footsteps
of Jane Austen, visit the museum dedicated to her, and
opt for tea and clotted cream with strawberries in one
of the town's elegant eateries.
York & the National Museum of Photography, Film
&Television
*You can also enjoy an optional excursion to the medieval
city of York, with its ancient timbered houses and narrow
winding streets and on to Bradford to view the Royal
Photographic Society collection. Housed at the National
Museum of Photography, Film & Television, it is
heralded as the world’s mot important photographic
collection. The NMPFT represents a magnificent body
of images and objects of unique historical and cultural
significance. It is a national treasure of a scale and
importance matched by very few collections in the world.
